The Parish Church of St Cuthbert, Forcett is an ancient building and was almost certainly given its dedication as it was one of the places where the Lindisfarne monks stopped during their lengthy perambulation around the north of England carrying the body of their beloved saint and trying to avoid Viking raiders.
It is surprisingly close to the church of Stanwick St John and, in fact, the Forcett parish boundary goes up to the churchyard wall of Stanwick and it is possible to get interesting photographs containing both churches. (See our gallery)
Unfortunately, although the church is obviously ancient and has 'suffered' a severe Victorian restoration, there is no written history of it available.
If anyone reading this would be interested in undertaking a project to provide such a document, it would be an offer gratefully received.
